We believe that a rich musical experience strengthens a student's communication skills long after they leave the classroom: a skill that greatly impacts every aspect of their lives. Therefore, our facilitators put together interactive assemblies and workshops that teach the art of beatboxing and how it changed the world. Our sessions challenge students to work together to decide upon a message they want to share with their school. Students leave our workshops with the ability to create their own original music and lyrics. Our events' underlying message is to inspire our students to believe in themselves and use their voices to share their unique stories with the world.
Assemblies are best for larger groups (25 - 500+). Assemblies focus on introducing concepts and basic tools and techniques. Assemblies are a great way to see who is interested in beatboxing, and gives them a vocabulary from which to grow. Assemblies focus on some of our major themes as well, such as speaking up for those around you, anti-bullying, inclusion, confidence building, and leadership.
Workshops are smaller and more intimate, with 3 - 25 students. Smaller class size allows for more personalized direct feedback from the instructors. This allows us to build personalized conversations around the wants and needs of the students.
We offer all of our workshops and assemblies online. We work with any population, and focus on making music no matter where you are and what you have with you! Virtual programs are interactive and leave students with the ability to beatbox and write their own music.
Communication is the most important life skill we can teach. We believe everyone has the power to make music, no matter their background, age, or abilities. In a world where we are often told what we cannot do, beatboxing shows us how we can leverage what we can do to strengthen our skills, as well as prepare us to learn new skills. Communication and the ability to be understood is a necessity, one which can be taught and enjoyed in a playful and fun-filled environment.
Can speech therapy be effective, accessible, and fun? We say, YES! Beatboxing helps students strengthen their articulators, develop phonemic awareness, identify word segments, and most importantly, bolster confidence and self-image. Beatboxing encourages individualized practice long after students have left the classroom. Want to learn more about research that we've done with NYU? Sign up for a new letter to stay up to date.
