Behind AON

OUR STORY

Rewind and take it back!

The Academy of Noise was founded in 2015 by World Beatbox Champion Kaila Mullady and American Beatbox Champion Mark Martin. After years of working with leading arts education organizations across New York City and developing their own beatboxing and speech therapy curriculum, they set out to build something new: a program with the power to reach every student, in every classroom, in every corner of the world.

Since then, AON has worked with hundreds of schools, tens of thousands of students, and communities across dozens of countries. But through all of it, the mission has never changed: to give students the skills to become the best versions of themselves.

We believe that when young people find the confidence to share their voice and their story with the world, something extraordinary happens. They stop waiting to be chosen and start choosing themselves. Through beatboxing, songwriting, and creative collaboration, we help students develop the skills that matter most, not just in music, but in life.

A growth mindset that makes hard things feel possible. Communication skills that open doors. A safe space to work through what’s heavy. A sense of belonging that reminds them they are not alone. The courage to take risks, sit with discomfort, and come out stronger. The mental resilience to keep going. And the joy, the pure, unfiltered silliness, that makes every single session worth showing up for.

We are not just building great musicians.

We are building the next generation of empathetic, collaborative leaders, and we believe that all starts with making a sound.
